The Nintendo 64 boasts some of the most groundbreaking and influential games of all times; the space available on its game medium might have been much smaller than on the CD-ROM used by its competition but each of these cartridges were packed with ingenuity and fun.
The success of the N64 can’t be reduced to the Nintendo, Super Mario, and Zelda’s name; one first-party studio, Rare, was released blockbuster hit after blockbuster hit during the Nintendo 64 era; no matter the genre, in the late 90s, Rare could do no wrong.
The biggest games available on the Sony PlayStation, the Sega Saturn, and the PC were ported to the Nintendo 64; because of the limitations of cartridges, a lot of them had to make significant cuts to the original game in order to fit on them; many times, cinematics were the first to go.
Between, Nintendo’s, Rare’s, and the most popular games being released on the system, it was very easy to skip great games that didn’t have the same brand recognition as the big sellers.
The Nintendo 64 has quite a lot of sports game and a big proportion of mediocre ones but the ones here are some of the best and most fun.
I have fond memory of my Nintendo 64 and some of my favorite games aren’t great but they gave me hours of enjoyment when I was in high-school.
It’s a Nintendo console; everyone should play these N64 classic games.
