The Mood Boards Project

The mood boards project is a work in progress; an introspection designed to bring together masterpieces, people, places, and many other things inspiring me.

Everything below has been put together by myself; some times in a random fashion, others by colors, and a few by affinities. This is a post meant to grow and evolve; therefore, if you come back to it once in a while you might find new sources of inspiration.

Cinema

Cinema will be always be my first love; I fell for the 7th Art the first time I saw the original Planet of the Apes; beneath an entertaining shell was laying an unpretentious very intelligent critic of society and raising questions from the beginning to the end.

Thousands of movies later, I still enjoy watching great movies despite the film industry ignoring my demo and Hollywood scared into taking a creative risk.

Literature

I dreaded putting this board together: I haven’t been reading much for the last few years, I went from reading a book per week to reading almost nothing so I wasn’t even sure if I could name enough authors that inspired me.

Turns out this board was the easiest and most fun to build; the layout isn’t random; the authors are placed in such a way that they could have interesting conversations with their neighbors: Jules Verne, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke seating at the same table would undoubtedly have enthralling conversations; so would Aristotle, George Orwell, Maya Angelou, and Voltaire.

Video Games

I owe so much to video games; they’ve been so amazing at creating social connections that in many ways, it’s one of the truest form of Storytelling; like Literature; it is a medium that asks you to be actively involved; unlike Cinema. In the last 10 years, video games have just taken the place let vacant by Hollywood; the stories have been become more adult oriented and some of them are not shy to ask philosophical questions.

Music

This is the part where it’s really obvious that I grew up in the 90s; I will state it and have no problem arguing it; this was the best decade musically! I have a very eclectic taste; not so much into Top 40 but I listen to everything from Alternative Rock to Opera; Hip Hop, Zouk, and Rai are styles that my upbringing made me appreciate.

Television

There is a lot of junk on television; between the insufferable reality shows and the nonstop commercial breaks, very few shows get to captivate and keep an audience engaged for years. These are some of my favorite shows of all time; some were cancelled way too soon.

Cuisine

I’m a bon vivant at heart; what’s very striking about this mood board is the color range: yellows, reds, and browns. I don’t just love eating; I love cooking; this an art form which involves many of the senses from the texture of the product to its color and smell… especially smell, has it can bring forward old memories.

Japanese Role Playing Games

JRPGs are an acquired taste; they’ve always singularly different than western ones with their Tolkienesque roots. What makes these Japanese extravaganzas so inspirational is the grandeur of the quests; no matter how limiting the technology has been; this genre always had an epic scale.

It’s always been a very quirky window into the Japanese culture in all its weirdness and humor.

Footballers

Some may be very surprised to know that I’m a huge football fan, and by football I do mean the sport where you kick a ball with your feet! So yes I’m part of the generation who saw the French national squad win the World Cup in 1998 despite all the odds; and yes, I’ve been supporting Paris Saint-Germain back in the days; way before they won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.
