The Best Recent Sci-Fi Movies You Haven’t Seen

Here’s a list of recent sci-fi movies that haven’t met a popular success despite being absolutely enthralling and worth watching.

Ex-Machina

One of my favorite movies of the last few years; despite winning an Oscar for VFX, Alex Garland’s masterpiece and Oscar Isaac’s performance should have, at least, been nominated.

Moon

One of the best mind-bending psychological thriller in recent memories, Sam Rockwell and the voice of Kevin Spacey make this claustrophobic movie shine.

Automata

Not the best on this list, the movie helmed by Antonio Banderas is a visually striking tale reminiscent of classic sci-fi stories and a hint of Blade Runner.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

The original Planet of the Apes is my favorite movie of all time; after a slew of mediocre sequels, an abyssal first and a lackluster second reboot, this entry in the series is the gem no one expected to be.

Children of Men

Alfonso Cuarón delivered a very smart and thoughtful movie served by great performances and a stellar production. For some reason, it is never the first to come up to mind when talking about the best sci-fi movies despite people fondly remembering it.
